OAKLAND, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington golf team hosted the annual UMF Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Waterville Country Club. The Beavers placed fifth overall, with their top four finishers combining for a team score of 334.
The tournament featured seven institutions: Farmington, Husson, Southern Maine, Saint Joseph's, Colby, Maine Maritime, and Presque Isle. Husson and Southern Maine tied for first place, each finishing 26-over (306). Individually, Jaden Poirier of Southern Maine and Jace Cook of Husson shared medalist honors at two-over par (72).
Beaver Golfers
First-year Caleb Harvey (Bath, Maine) once again led the Beavers, tying for fifth overall with a round of 76 (+6). Harvey tallied three birdies, including back-to-back on holes eight and nine to build momentum heading into the back nine, and added another birdie on the par-four 15th. He posted identical 38s on both the front and back.
Fellow first-year Gage Suitter (Bath, Maine) recorded the best round of his young career, finishing 12-over par with an 82 to place 19th out of 35 competitors. Suitter's round included a birdie on the par-four 14th, with splits of 42 on the front nine and 40 on the back.
Competing out of the No. 5 spot, sophomore Joseph Wellman-Clouse (Mount Desert, Maine) turned in a steady round of 88 (+18), tying for 26th. He avoided major mistakes and finished with five pars, carding a 43 on the front and a 45 on the back.
No. 4 golfer Jackson Forrest (Portland, Maine) matched Wellman-Clouse with an 88 (+18), also tying for 26th. Forrest's round was highlighted by birdies on the par-five 3rd and par-four 14th. He shot a 48 on the front nine before rebounding with a 40 on the back.
Trent Beaudoin (Farmington, Maine) and Kaleb Hussey (Topsham, Maine) also competed for UMaine-Farmington. Beaudoin, playing in the No. 3 slot, finished 28th with an 89 (+19), while Hussey posted a 92 (+22) in his first collegiate appearance, competing in an exhibition role.
