MMBCWA Announces Zach McLaughlin as Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Maine – For the second time this season, University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball standout Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) has been named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Player of the Week.

McLaughlin had a monster week scoring the basketball for the Beavers, helping push the team to a 2-01 week that included a pair of crucial North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victories.

McLaughlin opened the week with a 26-point performance at home in a five-point loss against Bates. He got going early against the Bobcats, scoring 18 points in the first half, including 12 of the team's first 14 points, which sparked a 14-0 run to open the game. McLaughlin shot 10-of-19 from the floor and also finished with two rebounds and two steals in just 25 minutes.

On Friday, in a one-point road win over Husson, McLaughlin finished with a team-high 27 points while shooting 9-of-23 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. He also added three rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes.

McLaughlin continued scoring the ball at a high clip in Saturday's victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He finished with 24 points, shooting 8-of-19 from the field, including 5-for-11 from three-point range. He also added five rebounds in the 77-62 win.

For the week, McLaughlin averaged 25.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc. To date, he is averaging 24.5 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc. He has also recorded 24 or more points in six straight games and has scored 20 points in 14 of 19 games this season. McLaughlin is currently tied for seventh in the nation in points per game and is the nation's leading scorer in total points with 465.
