WATERVILLE, Maine – With the regular season coming to an end, two Beavers finished on a high note as University of Maine at Farmington sophomore guard Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) earned his third NAC Player of the Week honor, while junior forward Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) collected his ninth Defensive Player of the Week award of the year.
McLaughlin and Reynolds led the Beavers to a win in their regular-season finale against Maine Maritime Academy, 80-75. McLaughlin tied his career-high with 35 points, while also contributing two assists and a steal. He was dominant from beyond the three-point line, draining seven threes while shooting an efficient 58% from deep. Reynolds did his job on the boards, pulling down 17 total rebounds, with 11 coming on the defensive glass, while also finishing second on the team in scoring with 18 points.
McLaughlin is averaging 25.5 points per game, which ranks him as the fifth-highest scorer in Division III. He is also averaging 3.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and one steal per game. Reynolds leads Division III with 379 total rebounds and averages an astound 15.2 rebounds per game. In addition to his dominance on the boards, he is averaging 17.5 points and 2.1 assists per game.
The Beavers now head into the NAC Playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the conference and will play their first playoff game on Sunday, February 22, against either the No. 4 seed Maine Maritime or the No. 5 seed SUNY Cobleskill.
