LAKE PLACID, New York - On Friday, the University of Maine at Farmington snowboarding team took home third place, amassing 34 place points with three finishers inside the top 20 of the USCSA Snowboard Slopestyle National Championship.
The event began with the qualifying round that included 38 competitors, all aiming for a spot in the top 12 to advance into the Finals.
The Beavers were led by senior Ezra Mathieu (Lewiston, Maine), who narrowly squeaked his way into the Finals as the 12th and final qualifier with a score of 53 in the qualifying round. Jackson Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine) also qualified for the Finals, scoring a 56.67 in the qualifying heat and finishing as the 11th snowboarder to qualify.
Tucker Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine) scored a 47.67 on his best qualifying run, finishing 18th overall but did not qualify for the Finals.
In the Finals, Mathieu completed a fantastic run, scoring a 74 to jump up the leaderboard all the way into sixth place. Jackson Boudreau was unable to match his score from the first run, scoring a 25.67 in the Finals and finishing 10th overall for the day.
Westminster University had three of the top four finishers to effortlessly earn the top spot on Friday. Anthony Turco of Westminster was crowned the individual champion, scoring a 93.67 on his best attempt.
