Highlights From Women’s Track and Field at the SNHU Spring Invitational

MANCHESTER, N.H. - After competing in a three-day meet in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina a week ago, the University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team returned to New England to compete in the SNHU Spring Invitational, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, on Thursday.

The event included several of the top track and field programs from across NCAA Divisions II and III in the New England region.

Top Beaver Performances

First-year Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) delivered a pair of top-10 performances, placing sixth overall in the javelin finals and eighth overall in the 400-meter hurdles. Alexander qualified for the finals in the javelin after reaching 31.48 meters in the qualifying round. In the finals, her best attempt was measured at 33.53 meters en route to a sixth-place finish. In the 400-meter hurdles, Alexander posted a time of 1:17.67.

In the triple jump, fellow first-year Jenney Lutz (Lebanon, N.H.) placed fifth overall in a 20-athlete field. Lutz reached 10.31 meters on her best jump. Sadie Pierce (China, Maine) also competed in the event, earning ninth overall with a jump of 9.74 meters.

Pierce added a second top-10 finish, placing 10th overall in the long jump with a mark of 4.72 meters.

Senior Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Md.) and junior Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Poteet finished in 13:44.52, while MacDonald posted a time of 16:00.35.

First-year Ashley Roy (Turner, Maine) placed seventh in the qualifying round of the javelin. Her best throw was measured at 29.48 meters, but she did not advance to the finals.

Farmington's 4x100-meter relay team of Lutz, Alexander, Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), and Pierce recorded a time of 53.90 seconds, placing fifth overall.

UP NEXT

Farmington will travel next Saturday to compete in the Springfield College Classic.
