Highlights From Men’s Track and Field at Springfield College Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team competed on Saturday at the Springfield College Classic. The event was a non-scoring meet that included several of the top Division III institutions from the New England region.

Top Beaver Performances

The Beavers were led on Saturday by junior thrower Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine), who continued his fantastic season with three top-five performances. Crews placed third in the hammer, fourth in the discus, and fifth in the shot put. In the hammer, Crews' best attempt was measured at 45.02 meters. In the discus, he reached 41.33 meters on his furthest throw. In the shot put, his best mark was 13.76 meters. First-year Noel Matista (Danbury, Conn.) placed 11th overall in the hammer, reaching 39.65 meters with his best attempt.

Junior Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) had the best finish of any Beaver, running to a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. LaFlamme finished the race in 9:49.35. First-year Hans Bakke (York, Maine) and sophomore Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine) also competed in the steeplechase, placing eighth and tenth, respectively. Bakke finished in 11:06.83, while Perkins posted a time of 11:25.00.

Sophomore Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) earned a seventh-place finish in the long jump. Booker's best jump was measured at 6.42 meters.

First-year Lucas Witkowski (Cromwell, Conn.) performed well in the 400 meters, finishing in 51.68 seconds en route to an eighth-place finish in the event.

Junior Ethan Linscott took ninth place in the 800 meters, posting an impressive time of 1:59.78.

Farmington also competed in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. In the 4x100-meter relay, Booker, Witkowski, Jake Lepper (Blue Hill, Maine), and Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) placed fifth, finishing in 44.35 seconds. In the 4x400-meter relay, Farmington took ninth as Lepper, Burns, Linscott, and Jordan Castonguay (Sabattus, Maine) posted a time of 3:52.67.

UP NEXT

Next weekend, the Beavers will compete in a pair of events: the Silfen Elite Distance Meet on Friday in New London, Connecticut, and the Monks Invitational in Standish, Maine, which will take place on both Friday and Saturday.
