SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team competed at the Springfield College Classic on Saturday. The event consisted of several top programs from the New England region, including Springfield, Trinity, UMass Boston, WPI, Keene State, Nichols, Wentworth, Western New England, and Castleton.
Top Beaver Performances:
Junior Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) delivered a standout performance in the 1,500 meters, placing sixth overall in the event against a loaded field. Martinez Nocito finished the race in 5:04.27.
First-year standout Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) continued her strong rookie campaign with a second-place finish in the javelin and an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Alexander reached 35.58 meters with her best javelin throw, just 0.2 meters out of first place. In the 400-meter hurdles, she posted a time of 1:13.57.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) ran to a time of 15:23.79 en route to a fifth-place finish in the event.
First-year Sadie Pierce (China, Maine) had a pair of top-ten finishes. She took home eighth place overall in the long jump, with her best attempt reaching 4.78 meters. She also added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.17 meters. Fellow first-year Jenney Lutz (Lebanon, N.H.) finished one place behind Pierce in seventh in the triple jump, recording a best jump of 10.07 meters.
First-year thrower Ashley Roy (Turner, Maine) placed inside the top ten in the discus, hammer, and javelin. She reached 29.54 meters on her best throw in the discus, finishing ninth overall. Roy placed eighth in the hammer with a top mark of 37.67 meters. In the javelin, she recorded a best throw of 32.99 meters.
The Beavers took home sixth place in the 4x100-meter relay and fifth place in the 4x400-meter relay. Lutz, Alexander, Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), and Pierce finished in 53.34 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay. Lutz, Abigail Dumont (Windham, Maine), Todd, and Martinez Nocito raced to a time of 4:39.42 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Next weekend, the Beavers will compete in a pair of events: the Silfen Elite Distance Meet on Friday in New London, Connecticut, and the Monks Invitational in Standish, Maine, which will take place on both Friday and Saturday.
