SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team competed on Friday and Saturday at the New England Championships. On Saturday, the Beavers' 4x400-meter relay team set a new program record en route to a 17th-place finish.
Farmington's 4x400-meter relay team consisted of Jenney Lutz (Lebanon, N.H.), Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine), and Abigail Dumont (Windham, Maine). The group posted a time of 4:22.48, earning a 17th-place finish while setting the program record in the event.
First-year Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) qualified and competed in both the heptathlon and the javelin. In the heptathlon, Alexander placed 12th overall after posting 3,128 points. In the javelin, her best throw measured 32.19 meters, earning her a 16th-place finish.
Lutz was the only other individual to compete this weekend for the Beavers, doing so in the 100 meters. In a loaded field, Lutz raced to a 29th-place finish with a time of 12.89 seconds.
The Beavers also had a 4x100-meter relay team made up of Lutz, Todd, Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine), and Sadie Pierce (China, Maine) compete on Saturday. The group posted a time of 52.22 seconds to place 21st in the event.
