FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington senior Bayley Casavant (Corinth, Maine) was named the Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) Defensive Player of the Week, while first-year Ashley Merchant (Lebanon, Maine) was named the Rookie of the Week, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.

Casavant made her return to the lineup on Friday after missing three games due to injury and made her presence immediately felt. Casavant played a key role in helping push the Beavers to a 5-3 win over UMass Boston. Casavant converted a penalty stroke to register her first goal of the season. The goal broke a 1-1 tie early in the first quarter and ended up being the game-winner. Casavant also plays a key role on penalty corners as the inserter.

Merchant had a breakout performance on Friday against the Beacons, coming off the bench and scoring a pair of goals, the first two of her collegiate career. Merchant's first goal came in the first quarter, converting off a penalty corner to make it a 3-1 game. Merchant's second goal of the game came midway through the fourth quarter to make it a 5-3 game and provide needed insurance to help secure the victory for the Beavers.
