Women's soccer downs Johnson State

FARMINGTON -- Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME) converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute to help the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team remain undefeated in the North Atlantic Conference with a 1-0 win over Johnson State College on Saturday at Prescott Field.

The Beavers ran their record to 13-3 (9-0 in the NAC) and are scheduled to host Castleton on Sunday. The Badgers slipped to 7-7 (3-6) with a trip to Thomas on Sunday.

Despite outshooting the visitors 32-4, St. Amand's PK was the only time Farmington could find the back of the net. The shot was set up when Jackie Mrazik (Mount Vernon, ME) was taken down in side the box 49 minutes into the contest. St. Amand found the bottom right corner of the goal for the 1-0 edge.

Prior to St. Amanda's kick, Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME) had a point-blank offering tipped over the cross bar by Johnson netminder Jenna Wulfson (Shelburne, VT) nine minutes into the game. The Beavers' Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH) had two second-half bids turned away by the post.

Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) made three saves in recording the shutout. Not included in the total was a sliding snare of a lead pass to take an opportunity away from Castleton's Casey Rusin (Wilmington, VT) in  the 28th minute.

Wulfson registered 15 saves in the loss.
