STANDISH -- The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision at St. Joseph's College on Wednesday in Standish in the Beavers' regular-season finale. The Monks scored the game-winner with 16 seconds left in regulation.
Both teams had multiple chances to break the scoreless tie, but it was St. Joseph's Julia Ostrowski (Albany, NY) who scored the game winning goal with 16 seconds remaining in the game. The Monks improve their record to 10-6, while the Beavers fell to 10-5.
The Monks outshot the Beavers 21-9 and were led by Kayla Nowell (Bridgton, ME), who directed six shots on net.
St. Joseph's Kathleen Simoes (Wakefield, MA) made seven saves in the shutout victory.
Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH) recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Earlier Wednesday, Farmington was announced as the top seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference playoffs. The Beavers are scheduled to host Elms College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in NAC quarterfinal action.
