Field hockey shuts out Lasell

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Kristin Chambers (Gorham, ME) and Rebecca Roy (Skowhegan, ME) each scored a goal and Kaeleigh Barker (Chicester, NH) earned her fourth shutout as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team blanked Lasell College in North Atlantic Conference action at Prescott Field on Sunday.

The Beavers ran their record to 6-3 and 4-1 in NAC play, while the Lasers dropped to 4-9 (2-3). UMF is scheduled to visit STX/NFHCA National Coaches Poll No. 1 Bowdoin College on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Lasell is tabbed to host Elms College in conference action on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

UMF took a 1-0 lead with 2:05 left until intermission on a play started by a lengthy hit by Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME). Corralling Wentworth's drive, Amanda Fortin (Jefferson, ME) sent the ball to Chambers, who one-timed it for the score.

The Beavers distanced themselves from the Lasers with 11:50 left to play when Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) rapped a drive from outside the circle that was tipped in by Roy for a 2-0 advantage.

Barker made the lead stick by stopping all four Lasell shots. The Beavers fired 11 shots and held a 14-4 command in penalty corners.

Laura Gallagher (Westwood, MA) came away with six saves for the Lasers.
