BIDDEFORD -- Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) came off the bench to score the go-ahead goal, and the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team added an insurance goal late for a 3-1 victory over the University of New England in a non-conference game this afternoon.
The Beavers improved to 7-5 with a game at Husson University Saturday.
After the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first half, Agnew made her first goal of the season count when she set up in front of the left side of the cage and poked home a cross from Bethany Marshall (York, ME) with just over 14 minutes remaining.
The Beavers tacked on another on a penalty corner with just over six minutes to play. Elyse Cole (Winthrop, ME) pushed the ball to Emma Deans (Gorham, ME), who set up a drive by Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME).
The first half saw UNE get on the scoreboard early when Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, ME) ripped a hard shot from the right side for her team-leading 11th goal.
Farmington drew even with just over five minutes remaining in the half, as Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) tipped in a shot from close range. Deans was credited with an assist on the play.
Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH) made six saves for the Beavers.
For UNE (4-7), which hosts Gordon College on Thursday, Ayla Nelson (Auburn, MA) recorded eight stops.
