WATERVILLE -- Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) scored off a penalty corner 27 seconds in overtime to lift the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team to a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over Thomas College today.
The Beavers (8-6 overall, 5-0 in the NAC) are scheduled to close out their regular season Saturday with a key conference clash at Castleton State College. The Terriers slipped to 3-12 (1-5).
With 6:35 left to play in the opening period, Farmington's Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead when she beat Thomas goalkeeper Megan Denby. Thomas was able to knot the score at 1-1 with 13:49 left to play in regulation. Amy Miles received a pass from Kellie Martel and was able to score the equalizing goal.
Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH) made five saves for the Beavers, who held a 17-9 advantage in shots and a 13-11 edge in penalty corners.
Denby recorded nine saves in the losing effort.
