HAVERHILL, Mass. -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team slipped to 0-4 as Fisher College swept a doubleheader from the Beavers 5-2 and 4-3 today at Haverhill Stadium.
Farmington is scheduled to return to action on Thursday against Bates College at Husson College. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
Russ Schmelzer (Winthrop, ME) singled twice and doubled for the Beavers in the opening nine-inning game, while Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) and Kyle Shea (Bar Harbor, ME) each drove in a run.
Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) took the loss in the first contest with Bill Ridge (South Portland, ME) and Will Griffiths (Mechanic Falls, ME) each tossing an inning of relief.
Phineas Peake (Penobscot, ME) rapped a pair of base hits for Farmington in the second contest.
Brian Morrison (Saco, ME) was the losing pitcher in the second game with Craig Pendleton (Saco, ME) and Dan Hemdal (Nashua, NH) throwing in relief. The trio struck out 10 and walked only one.
