The Beavers dropped to 5-12 overall and 3-7 in the NAC. The Beavers are scheduled to host Fisher College on Monday with the doubleheader slated to begin at noon. The Spartans ran their record to 13-14 (7-1).
In the opener, Jeremy Gilcris (Proctorsville, VT) twirled a five hitter to lead Castleton to the victory. Gilcris walked one and struck out one in the win
The Spartans scored all of the runs they needed in the second inning when a pair of Farmington errors led to two runs, but Castleton broke the game open with a four-run sixth as Mitch Thresher (Northfield, VT), Anthony DiPietrantonio (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Brad Polcare (Saratoga, NY) each stroke an RBI single and Ted Mills (Stockbridge, VT) had a sacrifice fly.
The Beavers' lone run came across in the third when Brian Morrison (Saco, ME) plated Dan Stefanilo (Sanford, ME) with a groundout.
Dan Hemdal (Nashua, NH) took the loss for Farmington. Hemdal walked three and struck out four in 5.2 innings. Will Griffiths (Mechanic Falls, ME) worked 1.1 innings of unblemished relief.
Josh Garneau (South Portland, ME) rapped a pair of singles for the Beavers, while Stefanilo slugged a double.
Chris Ragis (South Burlington, VT) singled and doubled in the win, while DiPietrantonio plated a pair of runs.
In the second game, Polcare singled home DiPietrantonio with a single in the sixth to break a 4-4 deadlock and lift the Spartans to a victory. The single finished off a 3-for-4 game for Polcare with a pair of RBI.
The Beavers held a 3-1 advantage after the opening frame with an RBI hit each by Corey Provencher (Rumford, ME), Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) and Stefanilo, but Castleton fought back to take a 4-3 edge after four-and-a-half innings. Provencher clubbed his first home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to deadlock the contest at 4-4.
Provencher doubled, homered and drove in two runs in the loss, while Phineas Peake (Penobscot, ME) singled twice and Hanson doubled.
Morrison took the loss for Farmington with three walks and two strikeouts over six innings. Kyle Feltis (Bristol, ME) tossed an inning of relief.
Brandon Heck (Forestburg, Alberta) earned the win with three innings of relief, including a strikeout.
