Baseball swept by Thomas

BANGOR-- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team fell 10-2 and 6-0 against Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Husson College's Winkin Sports Complex today. The games were moved to Husson due to Farmington's Hippach Field being snow covered.

The Beavers stand at 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the NAC and are scheduled to visit Husson College on April 16 for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Farmington's scheduled doubleheader against Lyndon State College on Saturday has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions. The Terriers improved to 7-5 and remained unbeaten in the NAC at 4-0.

In game one, the Terriers broke the game open in the fifth inning when they parlayed six hits, three walks and an error into seven runs to roll to the win.

Farmington's Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) slugged a two-run double for his first collegiate hit, while Corey Provencher (Rumford, ME) registered a pair of singles.

Brian Morrison (Saco, ME), Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) and Matt Levine (Pelham, NH) worked the mound for the Beavers. The trio walked eight and struck out seven.

Michael Chamard (Livermore Falls, ME) led Thomas with four singles, including a two-run base hit that highlighted the fifth inning. Michael Busa (Carver, MA) and Jared Fieldsend (Somersworth, NH) each rapped two singles in the victory.

Payton Austin (Lisbon, ME) tossed three innings of two-hit ball for Thomas before giving way to Ryan Cotnoir (Augusta, ME). Cotnoir threw four innings of relief with two walks and a strikeout.

In game two, Cory Estes (Old Town, ME) hurled a complete-game, three-hit shutout to lead Thomas to the victory.

The Terriers struck for two runs in the opening frame on an RBI single by Sam Shain (Hallowell, ME) and a sacrifice fly by Nicholas Schauwecker (Yarmouthport, MA). Schauwecker added an RBI base hit in third. Chamard clubbed a two-run triple and Shain followed with an RBI base hit in the seventh to seal the victory

Bill Ridge (South Portland, ME) pitched well for the Beavers, scattering seven hits over six innings with five strikeouts and zero walks. Kyle Feltis (Bristol, ME) tossed an inning of relief.

Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) smacked a pair of singles in the loss, while Provencher had the Beavers' other base hit.
