Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CASTLETON, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team was swept 12-3, 12-6 in a North Atlantic Conference twinbill against Castleton State College today.

The Beavers dropped to 4-16 overall and 3-9 in the NAC with a four-game NAC slate against Husson University on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (noon) at Hippach Field. Castleton (22-11, 15-1) clinched the top seed in upcoming conference tournament. The Spartans will host the four-team, double-elimination tournament at East Field in Glens Falls, N.Y., on May 1 - 3.

In game one, Brandon Fay pitched six solid innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six in the win. The Spartans pounded out 13 hits, led by Garrett Bissonnette's 4-for-4 performance. Bissonnette drove in four runs, including two on a first-inning double. Aaron Zrenda added a two-run homerun and scored three runs, while Billy Manley and Kyle Brooks each added two hits.

Farmington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) walked and came around to score on a double by Josh Garneau (South Portland, ME). The lead was short-lived as Castleton answered with four in the bottom of the inning, capped by the Bissonnette double. Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) doubled home Phineas Peake (Penobscot, ME) in the third to slice the lead in half, but once again Castleton answered with a crooked number in the bottom of the inning, scoring three. Dan Conley started the rally with a lead-off walk, Billy Manley followed with a double and after a Matt Eisenhuth sacrifice fly to right-field scored Conley, Zrenda blasted his fourth homerun of the season.

Howell led the Beavers with two hits and Brian Morrison (Saco, ME) added a sacrifice fly.

Leading 12-1 entering the final inning of game two, Castleton allowed five unearned runs before Billy Sisko escaped with the complete-game win. Sisko allowed one earned run on eight hits and three walks while striking out four in the win.

Howell led the Beaver attack with three hits and an RBI fielder's choice in the third inning. Morrison was 2 for 3 in the nightcap, including an RBI double in the seventh.

Bissonnette was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, and Ted Mills collected two hits and four runs batted in for the Spartans. Matt Eisenhuth went 2 for 4 with two runs scored as Castleton collected 14 hits in the nightcap.

The Spartans busted the game open with a six-run second inning that included a two-run double from Mills and run-scoring doubles from Brooks and Conley. David Raczka also had an RBI single in the inning, and later added a sacrifice fly.
