Field hockey win streak snapped by Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK -- Bowdoin College, ranked sixth in the nation, rolled past the University of Maine at Farmington 9-0 in non-conference action this evening.

The Beavers -- winners of their previous five games -- dropped to 8-2 and are scheduled to host St. Joseph's College in North Atlantic Conference action Saturday at noon.

Elizabeth Clegg and Kassey Matoin each scored twice for the Polar Bears (8-0), while Ingrid Oelschlager tallied a goal and assisted on two others. Bowdoin outshot Farmington 34-3 in the contest with Ella Curran, Molly Paduda, Katie Riley and Cathleen Smith each adding a goal.

Sarah Brown (Windham, Maine) recorded eight saves in the loss.

Kayla Lessard stopped two shots -- a pair from Emma Deans (Gorham, Maine) -- for the Polar Bears.


Tavella put the Nor'easters in front for the first time in the 61st minute, but Farmington's Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine) redirected a drive by Deans with 2:39 left in regulation to make it 3-3 and send the match into extra time.

Nelson posted 14 stops for UNE, which resumes TCCC play Saturday against Gordon College (1 p.m.).

Sarah Brown (Windham, Maine) made 11 saves in the loss.
