Wallingford's walkoff HR helps baseball earn split

FARMINGTON --Brett Wallingford (Sanford, ME)'s two-run walkoff home run helped the University of Maine at Farmington baseball team manage a split with Lyndon State College in North Eastern Athletic Conference action today at Hippach Field as the Hornets grabbed a 2-0 win in the opener with the Beavers slipping away with a 6-5 victory in game two.

The Beavers (4-19 overall, 3-13 in the NEAC East) are scheduled to host Fisher College Friday at noon. The Hornets (9-21, 3-9) are slated to host Thomas College for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.

In the nightcap, Wallingford's blast closed out a three-run rally for the Beavers to take the 6-5 win.

With the Beavers trailing 5-3, Josh Garneau (South Portland, ME) doubled home Matt Levine (Pelham, NH) to cut the deficit to 5-4. After Matt Judkins (Thomaston, ME) reached on a fielder's choice, Wallingford delivered a blast to center field to give the Beavers the win.

Garneau coupled a pair of singles with his RBI double for Farmington, while Wallingford also had a single and Zach Keene (Livermore, ME) supplied two singles and an RBI.

Ryan DiPompo (Jay, ME) notched win in an inning of relief with two walks.

Corey Lescault (Bristol, RI) led Lyndon State with two singles. Lescault and Ben Clark (Brattleboro, VT) each had a run-scoring hit in the fourth as the Hornets took a 3-1 lead. They padded their advantage with a pair of runs off an error in the sixth.

Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, VT) only made one out in relief in the seventh in taking the loss.

In the first game, Lyndon State's Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, VT) outdueled Farmington's Bill Ridge (South Portland, ME) in a 2-0 victory

O'Donnell-Leach scattered six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in a complete game.

Ridge allowed five hits with three strikeouts in the complete-game loss.

Lescault drove in a run with a single in the third and Stetson Hicks (Whitefield, NH) scampered home on a wild pitch in the fifth for the two Lyndon State runs.
