WATERVILLE -- The Colby College baseball team rode 14 hits to 14 runs in a 14-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference play Wednesday.
The game was scheduled to go nine innings, but was called after the top of the seventh due to darkness.
The Beavers slipped to 0-10 with the loss and are scheduled to host Castleton State College in North Eastern Athleticc Conference East Division action with twinbills on Saturday and Sunday. Both doubleheaders are slated to start at noon.
The Mules (9-5) made it six wins in a row behind a seven-run second inning and strong pitching from starter Connor Sullivan. On the offensive side, Colby spread out the wealth as 10 players notched at least one hit. Mike Mastrocola, John LaMantia, Chris Murdock, and John Schroeder all had two hits apiece.
Sullivan started the game on the mound and recorded three innings of one-hit ball. Abhi Chandel, Charles Davis, and Mark Nelson all pitched in to hold Farmington to one unearned run over the final four innings.
Mastrocola's double in the first inning knocked in Richard Newton and put the Mules up for good. Eleven Colby batters came to the plate in the bottom of the second, producing seven runs off five hits, a walk, and two errors.
Steve Hutchinson (Beverly, MA) doubled for the Beavers, while Russ Schmelzer (Winthrop, ME) singled twice. Hutchinson plated Josh Garneau (South Portland, ME) for the lone Farmington run.
Brandon Gallagher (Cumberland, ME) took the loss for Farmington.
