Box Score FARMINGTON -- Emma Deans (Gorham, Maine) and Kaitlyn Bullen (Farmington, Maine) each tallied a goal as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team dispatched Mercy College 2-1 in non-conference action at Prescott Field today.
With the win, the Beavers improved to 3-0 with a non-conference tilt against North Atlantic Conference foe Husson University Sunday at 1 p.m. in Bangor. The Mavericks (0-4), who are in their first varsity season, are scheduled to visit Kean University Sept. 25.
Deans cashed in a Hattie Laliberte (Guilford, Maine) cross at 21:14 to put the Beavers in the lead at 1-0. Deans had a chance to expand the lead just prior to intermission, but Mercy netminder Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) snubbed the senior's penalty stroke attempt to keep the game at 1-0.
A barrage of shots and penalty corners to open the second half led to Bullen's score off a Samantha Webster (Dixfield, Maine) feed at 43:28 for a 2-0 advantage for the hosts.
Despite holding a 24-3 command in shots and a 23-3 penalty corner advantage, the Beavers found themselves holding only a one-goal lead over the final 11:20 as the Mavericks' Christina Feighan (Brewster, N.Y.) scored off a Sheila Curry (Rocky Point, N.Y.) pass, but the Farmington did not allow another shot the rest of the game to take the 2-1 win.
Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, Maine) made two saves in recording the victory.
Znaniecki finished the contest with 15 saves.
