Theriault leads field hockey to overtime victory

Box Score

FARMINGTON -- Elise Theriault (Winslow, Maine) completed a hat trick with 5:32 remaining in the second overtime to lift the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team to a 3-2 non-conference win over Endicott College today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers ran their record to 5-1 and are scheduled to host Bates College Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Gulls (6-3) are slated to visit MIT on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Theriault -- whose three tallies were the first of her collegiate career -- finished off a pass by Samantha Webster (Dixfield, Maine) from the top of the circle to close out the victory. Theriault's first two goals were both assisted by Hattie Laliberte (Guilford, Maine).

Joanne Reid (Clarksville, Md.) scored a goal and an assist for the Gulls, who battled back from a 2-0 deficit to even the score. Taylor Matties (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) tied the game with 12:28 left in regulation.

Holding a 9-3 command of shots in the opening half, Theriault deposited a long cross by Laliberte for a 1-0 lead for the hosts with 4:23 until intermission. The sophomore padded the lead 3:51 after halftime, but Reid responded with an unassisted score 11 seconds later to trim the score to 2-1. With the Gulls taking eight shots to the Beavers' three in the second half, Matties evened the scored at 57:33 to send the game into overtime.

After a scoreless first extra session, Theriault came through for Farmington at 94:28 to give the Beavers a 3-2 win. Farmington outshot Endicott 8-4 and took eight corners to the visitors' one in the overtime periods.
