Box Score FARMINGTON -- Hattie Laliberte (Guilford, Maine) and Sara Lane (Hiram, Maine) each tallied a pair of goals as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team rallied for a 4-2 victory over Bates College in non-conference action at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (6-1) are off to their best start since 2006 when they began the season 10-1 and the last time they defeated a New England Small College Athletic Conference school (1-0 win over Colby, Oct. 4, 2006). Farmington is scheduled to visit Lasell College Saturday at 1 p.m. for North Atlantic Conference action. The Bobcats (1-5) are slated to visit Tufts University Saturday at noon.
After trailing 2-0 after 30 minutes of play, the Beavers scored on all three of their shots in the second half in coming back for the win. Emma Deans (Gorham, Maine) collected a pair of assists in the second half.
Kelly McManus (Plymouth, N.H.) scored a goal and assisted on a Lyndsey Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.) score to give the Bobcats a 2-0 advantage 18:40 into the contest. Beaton's goal at 2:20 came off a corner, while McManus' tally was unassisted.
Lane drove in a Samantha Webster (Dixfield, Maine) feed to 30:02 to cut the Bobcats' lead to 2-1 at halftime.
After Lane knotted the game at 1-1 at 46:35, Laliberte converted a Deans feed at 54:18 to give the Beavers a 3-2 edge. Laliberte scored off a push by Kaitlyn Bullen (Farmington, Maine) for lead padding a 4-2 at 62:47.
Sarah Brown (Windham, Maine) and Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, Maine) shared goalkeeping responsibilities for the Beavers with Taylor earning the win. Brown made one save in the opening half, while Taylor had five stops in the second.
Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.) did not stop a shot for Bates, which held an 11-6 advantage in shots, while the Beavers took nine corners to the Bobcats' six.
