Beavers handed first conference setback

STANDISH, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was dealt its first North Atlantic Conference loss as the Beavers fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine 1-0 today.

UMF (4-4, 3-1) is scheduled to host Thomas College in NAC action Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Monks remained unbeaten in the NAC at 4-0 and improved to 6-2 overall.

Tara Cowin netted the lone goal for the Monks. Her unassisted tally came at 46:11.

Curran Brierley (East Hampton, N.Y.) made five saves for the Beavers. UMF was outshot 13-11 by the Monks. The hosts also held a 7-6 edge in penalty corners.

Meaghan Johnson recorded six saves for St. Joe's. Johnson snubbed Kaitlyn Bullen (Farmington, Maine), Jessica Martin (Winthrop, Maine) and Elise Theriault (Winslow, Maine) in the final minute of play to seal the win.
