Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine -- Castleton State College remained undefeated in North Atlantic Conference field hockey as the Spartans defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 4-2 this afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (6-6, 5-2) are scheduled to host Colby-Sawyer College in NAC action Sunday at noon, while Castleton (7-7, 5-0) are slated to face Thomas College Sunday at 11 a.m.
Kristy Pinkham (Brandon, Vt.) scored a pair of goals for the Spartans, while Rachel Preusser (Craryville, N.Y.) pitched in with a goal and an assist and Kealy Chipman (Bellow Falls, Vt.) provided a goal.
Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine) and Chelsea Morley (York, Maine) each tallied a goal for the Beavers, who held a 15-8 shot advantage and 15-12 edge in penalty corners.
Presseur tucked in a Mercedes Maltbie (Warrensburg, N.Y.) cross at 6:41 to open the scoring and Pinkham took advantage of a penalty corner to give the visitors a 2-0 lead 20:04 into the game. Barry worked back-and-forth with Kaitlyn Bullen (Farmington, Maine) to cut the deficit to 2-1 at intermission.
Castleton expanded its lead with a pair of second-half scores. Chipman blasted in a long pass from Caitlin Briggs (Germantown, N.Y.) at 39:38 and Pinkham teed off on Presseur's penalty corner to push the command to 4-1.
The Beavers served as aggressors over the final 20 minutes and broke through with Morley's first collegiate score at 66:27, but the Spartans came away with the 4-2 victory.
Curran Brierley (East Hampton, N.Y.) recorded four saves for UMF.
Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, N.Y.) made seven saves for Castleton.
