Box Score BANGOR, Maine -- Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine) collected a pair of goals to give the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Husson University at Winkin Complex this afternoon.
The Beavers ran their record to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the NAC, while the Eagles dropped to 7-4 (3-3). UMF is scheduled to visit defending NCAA Division III National Champion Bowdoin College Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Both of Barry's goals were assisted by Kashley Weymouth (Pittston, Maine). Barry potted the first just a minute in the game, when a Weymouth pass found her near the top of the circle, and Barry blasted it into the boards to put UMF up 1-0. With about a minute and a half left in the first, Barry scored from Weymouth on a similar play that beat the Husson defense, and gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead going into the break.
Husson was on the attack for the majority of game, outshooting the Beavers 28-4 and leading UMF 27-3 in the penalty corners column. Lorri Hiltz (Norridgewock, Maine) put five of her game-high seven shots on net, but her and the rest of the Eagles' attackers were unable to break through for a score.
UMF was able to earn the victory in large part because of tremendous goalkeeping from first-year goalie Curran Brierley (East Hampton, N.Y.). Brierley was able to stand in front of the storm and continuously keep the ball out of the cage, recording 21 saves to earn the shutout victory.
