Box Score 2 WATERVILLE -- The University of Maine at Farmington softball team was swept 1-0, 10-2 by Colby College in non-conference action this afternoon at Crafts Field.
The Beavers slipped to 9-13 with a trip to Castine Friday to face Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference twinbill. The first game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
In the first game, Aimee Polimeno scattered five hits and struck out eight in picking up her first collegiate shutout as Colby took the 1-0 win.
Polimeno earned her third victory of the season in the first game as neither team could manage a run in the first four innings. Colby scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth when two straight infield errors brought in the lone run. Barbara Santos led off and reached second base on an error and then teammate Alyssa Lepore went to second on another error and Santos was able to score from second base.
Emma Vaillancourt (Saco, Maine) was the tough-luck loser for UMF. She threw 81 pitches over six innings of work, allowed just two hits, and struck out three Colby batters.
In the second game, the Mules scored four runs in the first, four runs in the second, and two in the third to go up 10-1. Santos had two doubles, three runs scored, and three RBI. Meanwhile, Lepore also had a double among her two hits and drove in a pair. Lindsay Peterson also had two hits and scored twice, while Brianne Wheeler had two hits and one RBI.
Lauren Becker allowed just one earned run over five innings to pick up the Colby victory. She struck out seven and also helped her own cause with an RBI and a run scored.
Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine) had two hits and drove in a run for UMF in the nightcap. Amy Jones (Augusta, Maine) scored both of the runs and had a double while also reaching on an error and a walk. Kaitlyn Bartlett (Chesterville, Maine) added an RBI single for the Beavers.
