Box Score 2 BANGOR -- Husson University pitchers held the University of Maine at Farmington to five hits in a doubleheader as the Eagles downed the Beavers 8-1, 5-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division baseball today.
The Beavers (4-19, 3-19) are scheduled to return to Husson Saturday for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Farmington, but moved due to a rainy forecast. The Eagles improved to 24-13 overall and 11-3 in the NEAC East.
In the opener, Nate Adams threw six innings of three-hit ball and struck out five as the Eagles scored an 8-1 win over UMF.
Husson scored five times in the fifth inning to blow the game open. For the contest, Ethan Guerrette led the Eagles with a single, a triple and an RBI with Kyle Vanidestine collecting a single, a double and an RBI and Kevin Rennick two RBI.
The Beavers pushed their run across in the sixth when Josh Garneau (South Portland, Maine) singled home Russ Schmelzer (Winthrop, Maine). Garneau, Schmelzer and Jack MacVane (Mechanic Falls, Maine) each had a hit in the loss.
Dale Winchenbach (Waldoboro, Maine) was charged with the loss, giving up six hits with two walks and two strikeouts over the first 4.1 innings.
In second game, Mark Dvilinsky gave up just a pair of singles over six innings of work as the Eagles shut out UMF 5-0.
Dvilinsky walked two and struck out five.
Jake Arthers smacked a two-run double to help Husson to a 3-0 lead in the third. Shawn Smith and Chris Maguire followed with an RBI single each in the fifth for the 5-0 advantage.
MacVane and Brian Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) each had a hit in the loss.
Ben Pearson (North Stonington, Conn.) was the pitcher of record for UMF with three hits allowed, a walk and seven punchouts.
