Box Score FARMINGTON -- Husson University squeezed home the winning run in the eighth inning to lift the Eagles to a 6-5 win over the University of Maine at Farmington Sunday in North Atlantic Conference softball at Prescott Field.
The win completed a sweep for Husson. Originally a doubleheader, the Eagles eked out an 11-10 victory over UMF Saturday, but game two was rained out.
The Beavers (9-17, 5-9) await the NAC postseason seedings, while the Eagles (17-15, 10-2) are scheduled to finish off their regular season today against Lyndon State College at 4 p.m. in Bangor.
After Kelly Naegelin (Cohasset, Mass.) was placed on second to open the extra frame, Sarah Risser (Brewer, Maine) moved Naegelin to third with a sacrifice bunt and Kody Lyon (Dalton, N.H.) laid down a bunt to bring Naegelin home for a 6-5 edge.
Lyon struck out the side in the eighth to close out the win. Lyon threw two innings of no-hit relief and struck out four batters.
Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) thumped a three-run home run for the Beavers. Liz Sargent (Trenton, Maine) singled and doubled in the loss with Amy Jones (Augusta, Maine) turning in a pair of base hits. Sargent's two-bagger scored Sam Morency (Lewiston, Maine) to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth.
Kara Poirier (Berlin, N.H.) smacked a solo homer and singled for the Eagles, while Lona Sargent (Sullivan, Maine) singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Emma Vaillancourt (Saco, Maine) was dealt the loss with seven hits allowed, four walks and five strikeouts.
