Box Score BANGOR -- Fourth-seeded University of Maine at Farmington fell to No. 1 Husson University 9-3 in the first game of the North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division Baseball Championship Round today at Winkin Complex.
The Beavers (5-25) are slated to take on No. 3 Thomas College (12-25) Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Winkin Complex in an elimination game.
The Eagles jumped ahead with two runs in the home half of the first and never looked back en route to the 9-3 win.
Dylan Foster (Oakland, Maine) went 3-4 with a walk out of the leadoff spot, setting the table most of the day, scoring four runs and getting an RBI on his inside-the-park homer in the 8th inning. The 2-3-4 hitters led the way offensively as Jake Arthers (Belfast, Maine) had a good day at the plate going 2-5 with three RBI, while Ethan Guerette (Sabattus, Maine) went 1-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored and Shawn Smith (Winterport, Maine) went 3-4 with two RBI and scored another.
UMF cut the early lead in half scoring their first run in the top of the third, but Husson answered back with three runs in the third, and then got two more in the fourth before the Beavers got two runs back in the top of the fifth.
UMF racked up nine hits on the day, and were led by third baseman Alex Goldrup (Waldoboro, Maine) who went 2-4 at the plate and came around to score two of the three Beaver runs.
Patrick Wrigley (Oakland, Maine) came into the game in the fourth and went 4.2 innings, letting up just two runs on four hits with a strikeout the rest of the game.
