Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas College's Miranda Tinsman scored with six minutes remaining to give the Terriers a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington, in a North Atlantic Conference field hockey matchup Wednesday evening. The loss was UMaine-Farmington's (3-5, 3-1 NAC) first conference defeat of the season.
UMaine-Farmington had six penalty corner opportunities in the first half while Thomas (4-7, 2-3 NAC), but neither team was able to muster any scoring.
The deadlock was broken just over three minutes into the second half, when the Terriers' Brittany Premo scored on a pass from Tinsman. A Thomas own goal with 15:09 showing on the second half clock knotted the game at 1-1, setting the stage for Tinsman's game-winning goal with 6:35 remaining.
The Beavers had a pair of penalty corners over the final six minutes along with shots by Lily Barry (Hermon, Maine/Hermon) and Kaitlyn Bullen (New Sharon, Maine/Mt. Blue), but were unable to find the equalizer.
UMF outshot Thomas 11-6, with the Terriers scoring on their only two shots that were actually on goal. Seven of the Beavers' 11 shots were on target, with Thomas goalie Sofia Sourgiadakis logging all seven saves. UMaine-Farmington finished the game with a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.
UMaine-Farmington will host long-time rival Husson on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 12:00 p.m. at Prescott Field.
