Beavers bow to Lynx to wrap up Florida trip

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Lindenwood University-Belleville swept a baseball doubleheader from the University of Maine at Farmington 6-1, 8-1 as the Beavers finished their trip to Florida with a 1-7 record.

UMF is scheduled to host its home and North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division opener on Tuesday as the Beavers entertain Lyndon State College for a twinbill starting at p.m. The Lynx improved to 13-13.

In the first game, Geoff Nesbit singled, doubled and drove in three runs as Lindenwood-Belleville picked up a 6-1 win over UMF.

Ethan Jean (Jackson, Maine), Jack MacVane (Mechanic Falls, Maine), Dale Winchenbach (Waldoboro, Maine) and Ben Yarian (South Berwick, Maine) each singled in the loss. Jean plated Matthew Woodbury (Fairfield, Maine) in the fourth for the Beavers' only run.

Brandon Gallagher (North Yarmouth, Maine) threw a complete game in the loss. Gallagher gave up nine hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Cody Walker and Kaleb Warren each had two hits in the win as the Lynx scored four times in the fifth to help put the game away. 

Zach Speckhals earned the victory, allowing three hits with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings.

In game two, Lindenwood-Belleville parlayed  10 hits and five UMF errors into an 8-1 victory.

Winchenbach and Woodbury each singled twice for the Beavers, while MacVane singled to extend his hit streak to eight games. Gallagher and Brett Wallingford (Sanford, Maine) each also singled in the loss. Jean drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to push across a run.

Casey Ashey (Searsport, Maine) was hit with the loss with eight hits allowed, three walks and a strikeout over six innings.

Nesbit and Ross Cook each recorded three hits for Lindenwood-Belleville.

Kyle Sinn tossed six innings for the Lynx to earn the victory with six hits allowed, a free pass and a strikeout.
