Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Brett Wallingford (Sanford, Maine) and Matthew Woodbury (Fairfield, Maine) each drove in a pair of runs as the University of Maine at Farmington baseball team salvaged a split with Lyndon State College with a 6-2 win in the second game of a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader today at Hippach Field.

The Beavers fell to the Hornets 5-2 in game one.

UMF (2-8 overall, 1-1 NEAC East) is scheduled to visit Husson University Thursday for a NEAC East twinbill. First pitch is slated for noon. The Hornets (2-11, 1-7) are scheduled to visit Norwich University Wednesday at 3 p.m.

In the second game, Wallingford scored on Woodbury's sacrifice fly in the fifth and delivered a two-run single in the sixth as UMF grabbed the 6-2 victory.

Wallingford's single capped a three-hit game, while Zach Keene (Livermore, Maine) smacked his first collegiate home run and Jack MacVane (Mechanic Falls, Maine), whose season-opening hit streak snapped in the opener, recorded a pair of singles. Woodbury also had an RBI single in the first, while Dale Winchenbach (Waldoboro, Maine) scooted home on a delayed steal in the sixth to finish a three-run frame.

Ben Pearson (North Stonington, Conn.) scattered eight hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

Cody Gage (Newport, Vt.) singled, doubled and drove in a run for Lyndon, while Kyle Whitworth (Brattleboro, Vt.) also had a single and a double and Quinn Rambo (Avon, Ohio) tripled. Gage's RBI double in the fifth tied the game at 2-2 for the Hornets before Woodbury put the hosts ahead.

Sam Matthews (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) took the loss. Matthews gave up five hits with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings of relief.

In the opener, Dylan Newton (St. Albans, Vt.) crushed a three-run home run as Lyndon scored four times in the fourth on its way to a 5-2 win.

Leading 1-0, Isaac Earle (Vernon, Vt.) smacked an RBI double and Newton followed with his blast to give Lyndon a 5-0 cushion. Ethan Jean (Jackson, Maine) put an RBI double off the fence in the fourth and Woodbury had a run-scoring single in the sixth, but the Beavers fell 5-2 to the Hornets.

Jean also singled for UMF, which received a double and a triple by Colin Mello (Windham, Maine) in defeat.

Brandon Gallagher (North Yarmouth, Maine) was hit with the loss with eight hits allowed, five walks and four strikeouts in the complete game.

Earle and Robert Trucott (Lyndonville, Vt.) posted two-hit games for Lyndon.

Devin Rhodes (Brattleboro, Vt.) walked one and struck out six in the complete-game win.
