Amador's hat-trick leads women's soccer past UMPI

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – Sophomore forward Ava Amador (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) scored three goals while senior forward Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine/George Stevens Acad.) added two more to lead the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team to a 10-0 shutout of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Thursday afternoon at Prescott Field.

Junior midfielder Rachel Clement (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) scored UMaine-Farmington's
(2-1-0) first goal in the 21st minute off an assist from junior Kayla Tuttle (Waterville, Maine/Waterville), giving the Beavers all the offense they would need to win the game.

However UMF would add goals by Amador, Peake, and Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) before the close of the first half, taking a commanding 4-0 lead into the intermission.

Peake would score the Beavers' first two goals of the second half in the 50th and 68th minutes, followed by two from Amador to complete her hat-trick.

Seniors Krista Morrison (Calais, Maine/Calais) and Noelle Moulton (Cape Neddick, Maine/York) would cap UMF's scoring with goals in the 83rd and 86th minutes respectively.

"Our goal for the game was to assert ourselves and our style of play, and I think we did that," said UMaine-Farmington head coach Molly Wilkie. "All around, it was a great team effort. A lot of people were able to contribute, and we had some players who have been out with injuries who were able to get some playing time. Hopefully they will be able to build on that in upcoming games."

UMaine-Farmington outshot UMPI (1-3-0), 45-3, and had eight corner kicks to the Owls' one. The Beavers were also whistled offside 16 times.

UMPI keeper Amanda Larrabee played all 90 minutes in the Owls' goal, and recorded 15 saves. UMaine-Farmington keeper Beth Lebel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) played the first 72 minutes in goal and was credited with one save. Freshman Samantha Hatch (Hebron, Maine/Oxford Hills) came on for the final 18 minutes, but was not challenged by a shot on goal.

UMaine-Farmington will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 16, when the Beavers open North Atlantic Conference play at Maine Maritime Academy. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
