Weymouth lifts field hockey past NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – University of Maine at Farmington senior forward Kashley Weymouth would net the lone goal of the game lifting the visiting Beavers past the New England College Pilgrims 1-0 in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Beavers improve to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-13 on the season and 1-5 in the NAC.

The two teams would battle through the majority of the first half scoreless before Farmington's Kashley Weymouth would break the drought one-timing in a centering pass from Andrea Beaulieu with just under five minutes remaining in the half. 

The second half was much like the first as neither team would muster a goal.  NEC's best scoring chance came with just seven minutes left to play as senior forward Kristen O'Connell would fire a shot just wide of an open net.

Farmington had limit scoring opportunities in the second half as the Beavers finished the game out shooting the Pilgrims 9-3. 

Picking up the shutout victory in net for Farmington was Curran Brierley recorded three saves for the Beavers.  In net for the Pilgrims was senior Courtney Duquette who stopped six shots on net. 

NEC returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 15 when they travel to take on in-state conference opponent Rivier University. University of Maine Farmington will hit the field Tuesday, Oct. 15 when they host conference for Thomas College.
