Field hockey falls to the Mules, 4-0

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College field hockey scored a pair of goals early and kept that momentum on its way to a 4-0 non-conference win over the University of Maine at Farmington, Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.

Megan Fortier and McKayla Blanch scored goals in the first 4:09 of the contest to propel the Mules to the win, improving their record to 3-1.

Maine-Farmington, which fell to 1-2 overall, put up a good fight and still only trailed 2-0 with less than eight minutes to play.

Fortier started the scoring just 1:29 into the contest off a penalty corner. She took a pass from Kellie Walsh to the left side of the goal and blasted a shot for the score.

Fortier added an assist on the Blanch goal along with Misha Strage. Fortier got the ball to Strage in the left corner and her centering pass was tipped in by Blanch.

The Mules had a 41-2 shot advantage and a 20-0 margin in penalty corners. However, both of UMF's shots were on goal by Kashley Weymouth and Andrea Beaulieu.

Erika Johnson sealed the victory when her shot was deflected up in the air and went high into the cage with 7:09 to play

Johnson had the assist on the final goal that started off a penalty corner. A ball was deflected out to Johnson, who pushed a pass to Strage for the score.

Colby goalie Sarah Evans stopped two shots in 53:17, while Michelle Burt saw her first action of the season in the final 16:43. Curran Brierley made 19 saves in the cage for the Beavers. She made 12 of the 19 in the second half to keep UMF in the game.
