Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington seniors Ben Johnson and Andrew Dickey scored 25 and 21 points respectively and completed double-doubles to lead the Beavers to an 82-67 North Atlantic Conference win over Thomas College, Tuesday night at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
UMaine-Farmington improved to 3-1 in the NAC with the win, which also halted the Beavers' three-game winless streak. Thomas fell to 2-7 overall, 2-2 in the NAC.
Johnson hauled in 14 rebounds, nine on the offensive glass, to go with his season-high matching 25 points. He was 10-of-20 from the field, and 5-of-7 at the three-point line. Dickey finished with a game-high 15 boards to go with his 7-of-13 shooting effort from the floor and 5-of-5 mark at the line.
Junior guard Eric Westbrooks paced the Terriers with 18 points. Levi Barnes and Garen Manzo were the only other two Thomas players in double-digits for scoring with 15 points apiece.
Thomas held an early lead in the contest, jumping out to its biggest advantage at the 12:03 mark with an Adam Carlsen 3-pointer. The downtown shot gave the hosts a 19-9 point lead, but was soon relinquished when the Beavers responded with a 15-0 run to take a 26-21 advantage in the opening stanza. Pet Sumner logged all eight of his points for the night during the crucial run, including a pair of 3-point buckets.
The Terriers were able chip away at the UMF lead as Levi Barnes went 3-3 from beyond the arc in the closing minutes. However UMaine-Farmington still held a 41-35 lead at the intermission.
The second half saw the Beavers extend their lead to double digits, going up by as many as 21 at 11:57 on a Sam Leal free-throw. Thomas cooled down from the field, shooting a mere 32.15 (9-28) in the closing half, while their counterpart went 13-28 (46.4%).
Overall, Thomas shot 37.9% (22-58) from the floor, while Maine-Farmington went 28-66 (42.4%).
With the win, UMaine-Farmington improves to 13-7 against Thomas College, dating back to the 2003-04 season when both teams joined the NAC.
UMaine-Farmington continues NAC play this weekend with a two-game swing through New Hampshire. The Beavers will face Colby-Sawyer College on Friday, Jan. 10, followed by a matchup with New England College on Saturday, Jan. 11.
