WEEK RECAP
The Beavers had a successful week with a 2-1 record. UMF traveled to the green mountain state and shutout Lyndon, 3-0.
Husson came to Farmington on Saturday and it took an extra session, but the Eagles stole a 2-1 win from UMF and snapping a four-game win streak.
A day later, the Beavers shutout UMaine-Presque Isle, 4-0, with Avalon Amador contributing either a goal or assist to all UMF scoring plays.
LAST MEETING WITH THE HUSKIES
The winner a year ago was...nobody. After double overtime, the game ended in a 2-2 tie in Gorham.
UMF scored two opening half goals, the first coming from Avalon Amador in the 10th minute. The Beavers increased their lead to 2-0 when Kayla Tuttle found the back of the net in 29th minute.
Southern Maine answered back in the 54th minute when Jordan Grant cut the lead in half. With time winding down and the Huskies pressing for an equalizer, Kelly Burrell received a throw in from classmate Becca Tanous at the top left corner of the 18-yard box, took one touch to settle the ball and fired a shot inside the right post for the tying goal.
Both sides had opportunities in the two overtime periods, but neither could find the net. USM had an apparent game winner called back late in the second OT on a handball violation.
ALL-TIME VS SOUTHERN MAINE
UMF has struggled against the Huskies from the start with a record of 1-17-3. The victory came in 2012 when the Beavers scored two second half goals for a 2-0 shutout.
NON-CONFERNCE WOES/CAN'T WAIT FOR CONFERENCE FOES
UMF has struggled against non-conference opponents over the past 15 games with a 3-10-2 record including a loss to then top-ranked Bowdoin this season. The Beavers turn up the heat during conference play with a 12-3-1 record dating back to the start of last season.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
USM is coming off a rough week with two losses. The Huskies fell 4-1 to the University of New England after giving up four first half goals. USM struggled against Western Connecticut State, getting shutout 5-0, as Western won its ninth consecutive game.
USM leads the Little East Conference with 171 saves. Junior Marissa Temple has played every minute this season between the white pipes for the Huskies.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Analies Ross-Dyjak dished out an assist in the 4-1 defeat at UNE, but with the assist the sophomore moved into a second place tie on the team's points list.
