LAST MEETING
It took an extra period, but the Beavers won last year's meeting, 1-0, after Ibrahim Achekh scored in the extra frame in UMF's opening game of the season.
Fourty six seconds in to the extra period, Matt Potter's throw-in deflected off Achekh and into the back of the goal to give Farmington the victory. Potter tossed the ball toward the corner of the 18-yard box. Achekh redirected the ball past a slow-developing UMPI defense.
WEEK RECAP
UMF has gone through a tough stretch lately. The Beavers played under the lights at Maine Maritime but left with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss. The Beavers had a late lead last weekend against Johnson but the lead quickly vanished as Johnson scored three unanswered goals and silenced the Beavers, 4-2.
BETTER TO BE LUK-Y THAN GOOD
Senior Jordan Luks has contributed either a goal or an assist in three of the last five games. Luks scored two goals in Tuesday's, 4-3, loss to Maine Maritime. Luks assisted both goals last weekend during a 4-2 loss to Johnson and scored UMF's lone goal in the loss to Southern Maine.
TO BE FAIR....
Junior Ryan Fairbanks has emerged as one of the Beavers top offensive leaders. Fairbanks scored two goals in the loss to Johnson last weekend. The first goal came off a rebound from a free kick by Jordan Luks. The second goal was from a cross by Luks and Fairbanks' header found the back of the net.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls come to Farmington after splitting last weekend with UMaine-Machias and Unity. UMPI shut out UMM, 1-0, after Chris Daly scored 1:38 after intermission.
UMPI could not generate much offensive against Unity, and neither could Unity. The game had a combination of four shots taken, two shots apiece. Unity broke the tie late in the game when the Rams scored the lone goal in the 83rd minute.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
UMPI relies on senior Joshua Allen who leads the team with four goals and nine points. Allen has found the back of the net in four times in his eight starts. He has gone two straight games so far without scoring a goal, matching his season high.
Jordan Luks will be the key factor for the Beavers. Luks has scored a point in three of the past five games and helped the UMF offense get on the board. The Beavers have scored six goals in the last three games compared to the previous eight games when the Beavers only generated four goals. The senior has already set a career in 2014 with his four goals.
