Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine –New England College's Rachel Thomas scored the walk-off goal with 13 seconds left in overtime to give the Pilgrims the, 2-1, win during the North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinal game on Sunday afternoon at Prescott Field.
NEC rushed a throw-in during the final seconds of overtime. The Pilgrims passed a high cross into the box for Thomas (Raleigh, N.C.), who trapped the pass, turned around, and fired a line drive into the left side of the goal, passed a diving Sam Hath.
The Pilgrims evened the score with 8:16 left in regulation when Caroline Mols (Verona, N.J.) took a shot from just past the UMF bench and landed in the top left corner of the goal.
UMF got on the board first with a goal from Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine) in the 20th minute. Sarah Pokorny (Wayne, Maine) passed in front of the goal and Humphrey's header gave the Beavers the early 1-0 lead.
Sam Hatch (Hebron, Maine) saved eight shots for the Beavers and Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewbury, Mass.) saved four shots to earn the victory.
New England College advances to play Colby-Sawyer in the NAC Semifinal on Wednesday.
