BANGOR, Maine – The UMaine-Farmington (8-7) field hockey team suffered a, 1-0, loss to Husson in the North Atlantic Championship game after surrendering a goal with 3:25 left in double overtime on Saturday at Winkin Sports Complex.

"I could not be more proud of a team with the courage and effort they gave today. Husson is a well-deserved champion, but we played hard, we played tough, and the game could have gone either way," UMF head coach Cyndi Pratt said.

In the second overtime, Hanna Jordan (Lisbon Falls, ME) was dribbling along the right side and took a shot that went wide of UMF keeper Patty Smith (Gorham, ME). The ball went straight to Mellor, who took a shot and sent the Eagles into the NCAA Tournament.

The Beavers had a chance to score midway through the second half when Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, ME) broke free from the Husson defense, but Husson goalie Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, RI) made a fantastic save to preserve the shutout.

UMF tried to end the game in the first overtime when Delainey Kein (Unity, ME) propelled a 2-on-1 Beavers attack, but a Husson defender deflected her cross in front of the cage.

Patty Smith set a new school record with 28 saves and ties her for second most in the nation for single game saves this season. "I'm not surprised. Without her effort today, things certainly would have been different." Pratt added.  

UMF's three seniors of Chelsea Morley (York, ME), Meghan Hughes (Pittsfield, ME), and Megan Plant (Burlington, Vt.) earned All-Tournament honors. "I'm very proud of the way we represented ourselves, the team, and UMF. I told them one once they have a chance to look back on it, they made some great memories they will never forget." Pratt said.

Saturday's NAC Field Hockey Championship marked the first time since 2011 the championship game needed overtime period to decide a winner.
