MALDEN, Mass. – Fisher College baseball pounded out 25 runs on 24 hits to take both ends of a doubleheader off the University of Maine at Farmington, 14-7 and 11-3, on Saturday evening at Maplewood Park.

UMaine-Farmington fell to 3-6 overall with the two losses, while Fisher improved to 13-7.

In game one, the Beavers posted four runs in the top of the second off an RBI single by Jimmy Neal and a three-run base hit by Brett Wallingford.

That lead was short-lived, as Fisher plated five runs in the bottom of the frame on six hits to take a lead it would not relinquish. Base hits by Ivan Cabranes and Nelson Lopez each brought home one run, and a Sander Vargas double later in the frame drove in one more.

The Falcons added three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to extend their led to 12-4. Fisher's fourth inning was keyed by a three-run triple off the bat of Cabranes.

Farmington added to its run total on RBI singles in the sixth by Dustin McCrossin and Jordan Croteau. McCrossin also plated a run in the seventh with a base hit to score Wallingford.

Right-hander Joe Sullivan got the start for UMaine-Farmington, but saw his record even out at 1-1 after allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, on 10 hits with no strikeouts in three-and-a-third innings of work in the loss. Righty Victor Mendez fanned seven Beavers and scattered three hits over five complete innings of work on his way to the win.

The Fisher bats stayed hot right from the outset of game two, as the Falcons plated two runs in the first and eight more in the second to take an early 10-0 lead. Cabranes and Yuliano Rodriguez each stroked two-run singles in the second for the Falcons.

A leadoff double by Trevor Hisler followed by a walk, an error, a Tom Grady double, and a passed ball combined to let UMaine-Farmington plate three runs in the third inning. That would be all the offense the Beavers would muster, and Farmington would not get a base runner past second the rest of the day.

Fisher tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the third.

Right-hander Kyle Peterson got the start in game two for the Beavers, but yielded nine earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in two-and-a-third innings on the hill on his way to the loss. His season record fell to 1-1.

John Tangherlini struck out 10 UMF batters in his five innings of work, allowing just two earned runs on four hits on his way to the win.

Ben Keene and McCrossin each finished the day with a pair of hits over the two games. Wallingford went 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBI in game one.

UMaine-Farmington and Fisher complete the four-game series with another doubleheader on Sunday, March 23, at 12:00 p.m. at Maplewood Park in Malden, Mass. Former UMaine-Farmington head coach Dick Meader will be honored by Fisher baseball and its coach, 1998 UMF graduate Scott Dulin, in a ceremony prior to game one of the twinbill. Meader will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
