MALDEN, Mass -- The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team was unable to take a win off Fisher College on Sunday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the Falcons, 7-2 and 16-4, at Maplewood Park.

The Beavers fell to 3-8 overall with the losses, while NAIA-member Fisher improved to 15-7.

UMaine-Farmington's best chance to take a win out of the series came in game one of Sunday's twinbill, when the Beavers trailed just 4-0 as late as the fifth inning and were still within striking distance of the Falcons.

Fisher extended its lead to 5-0 in the fifth, and tacked on two more runs in the sixth on two singles, two stolen bases, an error, and a sac fly to left field.

Brett Wallingford plated two UMaine-Farmington runs on a single in the seventh, after Jimmy Neal got aboard with a walk, Trevor Hisler reached on a error at third, and Sean Cabaniss moved the runners with a single to left.

Starter Jory Humphrey fanned three Falcons, but allowed four earned runs on eight hits and two walks in three complete innings and took the loss. Shawn Carlson logged seven strikeouts in the win for the Falcons, after holding the Beavers to four hits in four innings on the mound.

In game two, Fisher posted four runs in each of the first two innings while Farmington answered with one run in the first inning and three in the second.

The Beavers opened the second with a hit batsman, with follow-up singles by Chad Snowman, Cabaniss, and Wallingford to score a run with no outs. Two walks and two wild pitches allowed two more runs to cross, but Falcon reliever Mike Hersey came on to retire the next two batters and end the UMaine-Farmington threat with Fisher holding an 8-4 lead.

Fisher tacked on two more runs in the third, and a six-run uprising in the fourth on five hits and two UMF errors effectively put the game away. With the Falcons still leading 16-4 after the Beavers batted in the top of the fifth, the game was called at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Freshman Ryan Camire got the start for the Beavers, allowing eight runs, six earned, on eight hits in the loss. Hersey got the relief win for the Falcons, after starter Moises Melo-Reyes was chased in the second inning.

UMaine-Farmington is scheduled to return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, March 29, when it faces Colby-Sawyer College. That doubleheader is scheduled for Farmington, but a new location or rescheduling information will be finalized later this week.
