LAST MEETING
Last year's matchup between these two teams needed an extra frame. Southern Maine came away with a 3-2 victory in Gorham, but the matchup was very even. Both teams had 13 shots on goals and each goalie had three saves after the first period. The Beavers jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after a goal by Meghan Hughes. USM tied the game in the 26th minute when Samantha Crosman found the back of the goal. The Huskies kept the momentum going when Jessica Boghasian made the score 2-1 11 minutes later. UMF tied things up in the 44th minute when Kaitlyn Bullen scored her first goal of the season. Natalie Harkins sent the Beavers home with heartache as she received a pass from Peyton Dostie and scored the game's final goal.
STRONG START
The Beavers are looking for their first 3-0 start since 2010 when UMF opened the season with wins over Gordon, Southern Maine, and Mercy. The Beavers opened the 2014 campaign at Framingham State with a 3-1 win. A day later, UMF was on the positive side of a 10-1 victory over Wheelock.
FUNNY PLAY WITH LETTERS
Patty Smith earned the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Defensive Player of the Week (DPOW) honors this week. Smith earned her first career victory on Saturday after a 3-1 victory over Framingham State. She recorded nine saves against the Rams in the season opener. Smith also did not allow a goal during her time in a 10-1 victory over Wheelock.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
The Huskies come into the game with a 1-2 record. The Huskies opened the season August 29th by splitting their two games in the Southern Maine Invitational. USM started strong with a 3-2 victory over Manhattanville, but fell 2-0 to Husson two days later. The Huskies attempted to rebound vs Gordon on September 4th but lost a close one, 1-0.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Three different Huskies have scored a goal. Freshman Kaylie Andrews scored in the opener vs. Manhattanville. Senior duo of Rebecca Pratt and Peyton Dostie were able to contribute the remaining goals against Manhattanville.
The Beavers have also been able to spread the wealth. Senior Chelsea Morley has scored two goals and dished two assists while freshman Carly Raymond scored three goals in her young career. Junior Delainey Kein and freshman Jenessa Talarico have contributed two goals to the Beavers' offense as well.
