Rebound Goal in Final Minutes Edges Emerson over UMF, 2-1

Box Score

BOSTON, MA. – A rebound goal with less than ten minutes to go would be the difference maker as the UMaine-Farmington women's soccer team lost to Emerson this afternoon, 2-1.

The first half saw little scoring but Mollie Coyne converted in the 39th minute for the Lions, who outshot the Beavers 6-3 in the first half. Alyssa Giannone passed it left across the box and then Coyne sent one touched it into the left corner of the net.

Avalon Amador had irony and the power of two's on her side. Fifteen minutes into the second half, she scored her second goal of the season, and her second goal in two games. Sarah Pokorny sent a cross to the right side and Amador made it count and sent the pass into the right corner, tying the score at 1-1.

The second half did not see any further scoring until the 85th minute. Tayllor Righini took a shot for the lead, but UMF goalie Sam Hatch was there for the clutch save. Alexandra Levin found herself with the rebound and managed to send her shot home to give Emerson the 2-1 edge.

The Beavers were unable to rebound as Emerson continued to control the tempo by firing two more shots within the final eight minutes. Emerson outshot UMF 14-7 on the afternoon.

Sam Hatch saved five shots, but falls to 1-2 on the year. Emerson goalie Melanie Escobar saved two shots to protect the one goal margin, and earns the victory for the Lions.

UMaine-Farmington (1-2) will stay in the Boston area and travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 2:00pm.
