Field Hockey Opens with Win at Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, MA. – The UMaine-Farmington Beavers field hockey opened the season on a good note with a 3-1 victory over non-conference opponent Framingham State. 

The Beavers struck first when junior Delainey Kein (Unity, Maine/Mt. View) got the Beavers on the board when she converted off a Lindsey Whitney assist in the circle with 22:53 remaining in the first.  Susan Newkirk (Bethel, Maine/Telstar) gave the Beavers a 2-0 advantage when she tallied her first goal of the season.

The Rams cut the deficit in half on freshman Amie Souza's goal just over five minutes into the second with an assist coming from senior Rhea Urbaniak. Carly Raymond added an insurance goal for UMF with just over four minutes remaining in the game for the final margin. 

UMF outshot the Rams 14-11 in the game, while the Rams held a 7-4 edge in corners.  Patricia Smith earned the victory with nine saves 

The Beavers (1-0) are back in action on Sunday when the team travels to Wheelock College. Game time is set at 1:00pm.
