Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Jimmie Chaisson nailed a three-point jump shot with nine seconds left in the game to lift the University of Maine at Farmington (4-8, 3-3)) to an, 80-78, win over conference opponent New England College (6-7, 3-3) on Saturday afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.
UMF overcame a 12-point halftime deficit and took a 50-49 lead with ten minutes remaining. The two teams dueled until the very end by trading baskets and lead changes.
At the 2:57 mark, Jimmie Chaisson stole it away from NEC and passed up-court to Pet Sumner for the fast break layup, giving UMF the late 75-73 lead. The Pilgrims tied the game when Dezron Wilson made a pair of free throws. UMF retook the lead when Uriah Forest-Bulley made a tough layup down low over two NEC defenders.
With 37 seconds left, CJ Capilets made a clutch three-pointer to give NEC a 78-77 lead. Coming out of a Beavers timeout, Pet Sumner took a three-pointer from the top of the arc and on the rebound; a NEC defender knocked it out-of-bounds. On the in-bounds, Logan Nichols passed to his right to Chaisson, standing in front of the UMF bench, fired the game-winner.
"Unbelievable. We needed this one, this was a huge victory for us," Chaisson said after the game.
Chaisson finished with seven points and four steals. A pair of 20-point performances led the Beavers, Nick Hilton scored a game-high 24 points and Uriah Forest-Bulley added 20 points with both players finishing a rebound shy of a double-double.
UMaine-Farmington looks to continue the momentum on Tuesday when the Beavers travel to Husson at 7:30p.m.
