LAKELAND, Fla. – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team (1-0) had 20 total hits in Friday's, 16-6, non-conference win over Medaille College at the RussMatt Invitational.

The Beaver wasted zero time getting on the scoreboard. In the first inning, Sean Cabaniss (Vassalboro, Maine) led off the inning with a walk. Dustin McCrossin (Yarmouth, Maine) singled to right and Ben Keene (Livermore, Maine) followed with a single of his own to drive in the game's first run. Two batters later, Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine) gave the Beavers a pair of insurance runs with a two-RBI double to right center. Jordan Croteau (So. Paris, Maine) drove in Neal on a fielder's choice and after one frame of baseball, UMF held a 4-0 lead.

With the bases loaded in the second inning, Keene grounded into a double play but Trevor Hisler was able to score from third.

The Mavericks closed the gap in the fourth inning with three runs. After an error and back-to-back walks, Medaille's Daniel Luppens doubled to drive in a pair and Jake Tyno hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the RBI.

In the bottom of the frame, UMF tacked on four more runs to claim a, 9-3, advantage after four innings.

Tom Grady (Whitefield, Maine) powered UMF's first home run of the season with a three-run big fly in the fifth inning. After McCrossin reached on a fielder's choice and Keene singled, Grady hit his second career home run.

After Medaille scored in the sixth, the Beavers answered back in the seventh inning when Keene singled to left center for his third RBI of the afternoon. 

UMF tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning. Ethan Gouin (Sanford, Maine) drove home Grayson Beressi (Falmouth, Maine) after Beressi tripled to deep center field. The Beavers scored a pair when Keene hit his fourth single of the day.

Keene went 4-for-6 with a team-best five RBI. Neal followed with a 3-for-4 day and drove in four runs. Beressi had a solid afternoon with two triples in a 4-for-5 performance at the plate.

Nate Pushard (Auburn, Maine) started on the hill for the Beavers and picked up his first career win. The freshman gave up three hits, one earned run, and struck out two batters in four innings of work in his collegiate debut. Riley Chickering (Otisfield Maine) came on in relief and struck out a batter in three innings.

UMaine-Farmington returns to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader with Alfred State in the RussMatt Inviational. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m. at the Frostproof Athletic Complex in Lakeland, Fla.
