READFIELD, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team (11-4, 4-4) clubbed eleven extra-base hits on the afternoon, including three home runs in a doubleheader sweep over Lyndon State College on Sunday afternoon. At Kents Hill, the Beavers took the first game, 16-3, and then the shutout victory in game two, 4-0.

The Hornets put UMF starter Joseph Sullivan (Lewiston, Maine) into a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, but the senior battled his way out with a strikeout and an easy fly ball to left field.

Farmington gave Sullivan plenty of run support with seven runs in the second inning. Tom Grady hit a deep triple to left field and crossed the plate on a Jordan Croteau (So. Paris, Maine) single. Jimmy Parks (Springvale, Maine) singled with the bases loaded and then Sean Cabaniss (Vassalboro, Maine) came through with an RBI infield single. Dustin McCrossin (Yarmouth, Maine) followed with a two-run double down the right field line and Ben Keene (Livermore, Maine) hit and infield single, which brought Cabaniss home to score.

Trevor Hisler (Skowhegan, Maine) came through with a run-scoring single in the third inning. Two batters later, Cabaniss tripled to deep left field that brought two Beavers home to score.

Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine) crushed a two-run inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning to extend the Beavers' lead to 12-0.

After the Beavers scored on a pitching balk, Grady muscled another extra-base hit with a two-run double down the left field line. Every Farmington starter reached base safely at least once during the opening game.

Sullivan pitched six solid innings and gave up one run on four hits while mowing down nine Hornet batters. Ethan Nash (Westbrook, Maine) came on to close out the seventh and recorded a pair of strikeouts. 

A pair of leadoff home runs gave the Beavers and an early lead in the second game. Neal came through with a solo shot in the second inning and Cabaniss added another in the bottom of the third.

The Beavers produced two more runs in the fourth inning. Mark Leahy (Rochester, N.H.) lined an RBI double down the third base line that just stayed inside the chalk, and then Leahy came home to score after Lyndon tried to catch Chad Snowman (Dixfield, Maine) napping on first base, but the apparent pickoff throw was thrown out of play.

Kyle Peterson (Bethel, Maine) pitched a complete-game shutout for the Beavers with six strikeouts and allowed only four hits. 

UMaine-Farmington takes a quick break from conference play with a meeting at Colby on Wednesday. The one-game matchup will start at 4:00 p.m.
